Gholam Hussein Elham, IRI Government spokesman, during his weekly press briefing announced on Saturday (20/10/07) that Ali Larijani Secretary of Supreme National Council and top nuclear negotiator has resigned from his post. Elham added that Larijani’s replacement is being considered and will be announced before the next Tuesday’s scheduled meeting with Javier Solana in Rome.
Elham hinted that Larjani resigns so that he can focus on other political activities.
Observers in Tehran evaluate his resignation, immediately after Putin’s visit to Tehran, some how linked to the increasing tension that could spark, as G.W. Bush suggested, a WW III.
Others see his resignation and remark on pursuing other political activities as the hardliners’ strategic signal to replace Ahmadinejad, but whether he would be accepted by the reformists is another matter.
